PhDemystified

Ask for What You Need | Kathryn Schuler, PhD

MindCORE Season 1 Episode 1

In this episode, we interview Dr. Kathryn Schuler, a linguistics professor and the Principle Investigator of the Child Language Lab at the University of Pennsylvania.

In her conversation with a live audience, Dr. Schuler tells her story as a first-generation student navigating the unknowns of academia and shares advice for other students following a nontraditional path.

PhDemystified invites faculty from the University of Pennsylvania to open up about the unspoken struggles of becoming a scientist. In their interviews, researchers talk honestly about imposter syndrome, facing rejection, asking for help, and more. Recorded from an interview series "Behind the CV" hosted by MindCORE (the mind and brain center for outreach, research, and education at the University of Pennsylvania) and CURF (the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships), PhDemystified aims to create open dialogue around becoming and being a scientist, as inspired by the worldwide conversation series “Growing Up in Science” from NYU.
